Pursuit of Happiness IV

  • Imagination expectation gap:
    • Monalisa actually in caged vault vs photos found in the internet.
    • Curzon hall, Dhaka digitally enhanced photo vs visitors are let down by real dilapidated reality.
    • Our imagination get skewed hence there is a gap between expected reality vs actual reality
    • Advertisers knows that if they can make us feel inferior they can sell  products. We slip and buy their pitch.
    • Models are made to look perfect when in reality very very few people are perfect looking.

  • Interpersonal expectation gap:
    •  If someone around us has less than us we feel better
    • If someone around us has worse looking we more comfortable in a gathering

  • Intertemporal expectation gap:
    • Past is better than present (lets imaging the income) ---> unhappy
    • If present is better than past (constantly improving, constantly increasing in competency etc) ---> happy
    • Parents do a very bad job when they constantly tell you will be future Bill Gates, Roger Federer, AR Rahman, when they can't reach that goal they become unhappy.
