Playing cricket for records

Here are some legendary cricketers who bade goodbye to their cricketing career earlier than expected. Had it not been the case, the record would have been quite different!

  • Kumar Sangakkara
    • (12400/134/57.4) (Run/Match/Average) easily could have been the highest test getter. The best wicket-keeping batsman in the history of test cricket. Though retired at the age of 39, but left at a time while his form was tremendous -- scoring runs everywhere and in every formats.
  • Aleister Cook
    • (12472/161/45.35) (Run/Match/Average) easily could have been leading run scorer in test. Retired at the age of 33.
  • Hashim Amla
    • (9282/124/46.64) (Run/Match/Average) easily could have been leading South African batsmen. Needed to score 4000 more to beat Kallis -- who is another legend who could have attempted to achieve the most runs in test cricket. Solid test batsman and immense hunger for runs.
The baseline for batsmen is Sachin Tendulkar for whom I have a deep admiration and who was great as a cricketer as he was/is a human being. (15921/200/53.8) (Run/Match/Average).

Notes: This list includes mostly batsmen as most of the bowlers drag their career to the end until their bodies say no. I felt the urgency to write this up on the date 8/8/2019 to pay a tribute to Hashim Amla on his day of retirement. This list will be updated subsequently.
