HIVs (green) bud onto the surface of a lymphcyte
- HIV -Human Immunodeficiency Virus- is a virus. It causes HIV infection and AIDS.
- AIDS - Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome - is a condition in human body in which the immune system breaks down hence it is easier for other infections and cancers to pervade.
- HIV buds onto the surface of lymphocyte (one type of white blood cells ie, T-cell, B-cell (boss of T-cell :D), Natural Killer. HIV attacks T-type of lymphocyte). Lymphocytes kill the unwanted visitors such as virus/bacteria in human body. Once affected by HIV the count of lymphocytes decrease and body becomes vulnerable to other viruses/bacteria.
- Lower count lymphocyte compared to white blood cell is an indication of HIV invasion.
- Higher count of lymphocyte is an indication of viral infection and too high is an indication of cancer because all the lymphocytes go toward fighting the infection/cancer cells.
- A lymphocyte surrounded by red blood cells
