- download zip file from here
- sudo openvpn vpn.vse.gmu.edu.ovpn
- use your gmu uname/pass
- open up remote-desktop-viewer
- connect using VNC protocol
- provide host ip-add
- provide password (if security settings are changed in the remote machine)
- Issues:
- Ubuntu 14.04 doesn't show the "Desktop Sharing" application in the search menu. Instead run in the terminal:
- vino-preferences
- then pick the options to allow the desktop to be connected remotely with/without password
- to view the current enabled option
- dconf-editor
- then go to org->gnome->desktop>remote-access
- Alternate remote desktop client is "Remmina". alternate software to remote-desktop-viewer.
- disable firewall in the desktop used as server
- sudo ufw disable
